Making apple cider donuts

Something I’m grateful for today is having photographer friends — none of us mind the constant pausing to take pictures, the moving of items just a few centimeters around to get the perfect shot, or the excitement over good light. Suffice to say, hanging out with Stephanie on Saturday for a mini photography adventure was awesome.

As Californians, we don’t have easy access to winter-y goodness like snow or apple cider donuts. The snow, we can’t do anything about. The apple cider donuts, however, we can! Stephanie suggested making these donuts and I couldn’t say yes fast enough. It wound up mostly her making the donuts while I took pictures (sorry, Stephanie!), but I’ll treat her to breakfast at Blue Bottle next time, so I think we’ll be square.

Be sure to check out Stephanie’s blog for the recipe and her photos from the day! (I’ll update with a link to her post when it goes live.) Updated: Stephanie posted her pictures, thoughts, and the recipe for these donuts on her blog — check it out!

  1. those look so delicious! we were in Avila Beach a couple weekends ago and I bought some apple cider donut mix & pumpkin mix for my little mini donut pan. Of course they are not fried and did not look as pretty as yours do but they were pretty good for baked donuts.

  2. Man, you are killing me with these! Cory and I are currently without a dining room table and every time I see lovely table shots like these it makes me that much more sad, haha! And wow, those doughnuts look delicious!

  3. LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE! Now I don’t want to post mine. Your photos do these donuts such justice! Love the coffee pour!

  4. Mmmm, those look yummy! I would rather trade in a year of California sunshine than having to spend another Canadian winter! All these pictures makes me want to attempt baking… and I say attempt because I can’t make any food to save my life :P

  5. I was nodding my head all along to your intro about the perks of having photographer friends. They’re the best, for sure. :)

So much fun seeing the two perspectives of this one very awesome looking day! And thanks for linking to Stephanie’s blog – another read to tack on to my subscriptions! Both of your photos belong in a magazine. Like, seriously. Jeez, guys.

  6. love these shots Jacqueline, not only are they so deliciously scrumptious, they’re amazingly beautiful in tones and depth! i especially love the last few shots and the stack of donuts! hmm feel like homer simpson now…hmm donutsss :)

  7. Mmm, looks like you had your own personal cafe! These are so scrumptious looking! I love all things apple and pumpkin. I get overly excited when fall comes around specifically because of all the yummy things I’ll get to eat/drink. I love the way you set them up for a picture. Food shots are my favorite. :)

  8. It seriously looks yummy! And may I add that the photos are great. The last few picks reminded me of the joy of sitting and relaxing with a good coffee and something sweet…I’m off to do that right now!
