For the richest, thickest hot chocolate, we tried out Cafe Venetia. It was so rich that we couldn’t finish our cups (and we got just the basic hot chocolate!). Definitely the most gourmet hot chocolate shop I’ve ever visited.

wow must try that! lovely pictures :)
Holy cow, rich is an understatement. Looks heavenly!
This is what we call hot chocolate. Everything less thick is hot cocoa. :)
Oh wow, I just need that one teaspoon!
Recently the hot chocolates I have gotten have all been so thick I’ve had to refrigerate the leftovers. The next day it is like ROCK SOLID. They should call it hot pudding.
Actually, they did have a more solid version — a warm mousse version. But then, it’s not really hot chocolate, right?
I always have a hard time sipping too much chocolate – it’s a lovely treat – but often one sip and I’m done.
Wow…it almost looks like chocolate soup! So rich and delicious, I’m sure!
It looks very rich indeed!
Did you go to the chocolate place on SE 28th when you were in Portland? I went there a few weeks ago and ordered a cup of hot chocolate, and because I’m still not used to the ounce system, I was expecting a regular size, watered down (or milked down) cup and was handed a tiny tiny cup of concentrated chocolate with no milk whatsoever. It was about 5 times smaller than the cup in your photos and much thicker. If you ever visit Portland again, I’ll give you the address.
No, I’m pretty sure I didn’t visit there, but I would want to try it out! I feel like I should make another trip up to Portland again because there’s SO MUCH good stuff that I know about now (like Pok Pok or Salt & Straw or Ace Hotel)! I so woefully under-researched when I went there before. :/
Oh my goodness, is that chocolate syrup?! it looks so, so delicious!
I bet I could finish it! I’ll be sure to pass by here the next time we head south =D
I love your photos, as you already know, but seriously.. I want chocolate so bad right now lol. That cup of hot chocolate looks decadently wonderful. And you did a good job capturing it.. so good that I want some lol.
Yum. It’s summer here so not too many hot chocolates in my near future until the weather cools. I had one the other day on an unseasonably cool day. I love that your DOF created bokeh with the table’s white dots. Yum.
I went there in December but got a latte… must go back for the chocolate then. :)
Wow. you’re suppose to drink that ? Definitely rich !
Thanks so much, everyone!
oh! that is making me crave for one :(
Oh good lord gimme gimme gimme. Gorgeous photos as always!

Holy moly! I’ve never seen such thick hot chocolate before! Wow if I’m ever in Palo Alto I’m definitely gonna head over to Cafe Venetia
Oh God. I’m drooling.
We have a place here in Portland called Cacao that I’ve only ever been to during a session, so I didn’t get a chance to try it out, but it’s supposed to be ridiculously decadent and rich, too. Dunno how my body would handle that!
And yes, please please do come back to Portland! Anne (Hello-Souris) and I are yet to meet up, but out-of-town visitors are always a great reason to cobble everyone together for a day of fun!
